I believe the proposed power plant is not in the best interest of local citizens as currently planned. A more suitable location for the associated data center would be farther east, toward the Mount Storm Power Station, while still remaining within Tucker County. Relocating the project to that area could help reduce potential impacts on nearby mountain communities and better protect the quality of life of local residents. I am also concerned about the potential impact this development could have on our fragile ecosystem. Tucker County is known for its natural beauty, clean water, forests, wildlife, and outdoor recreation opportunities. Any large-scale industrial project should be carefully evaluated to ensure that these valuable natural resources are protected for future generations. Regarding economic development and job creation, it may be worth considering investments that increase the capabilities of the existing Mount Storm Power Station. Expanding power generation at an established energy site could create jobs for residents of Tucker County, Grant County, and surrounding areas, while potentially generating enough additional electricity to support the proposed data center. As community leaders evaluate this proposal, I encourage them to carefully consider the environmental, economic, and public safety impacts of the project. Thoughtful planning and responsible site selection are essential to ensuring that growth does not come at the expense of our communities, our natural resources, or the mountain heritage that makes this region unique.

I believe the people of this county should have a direct voice in deciding whether to implement new fees or taxes. One option worth considering is a modest 1% EMS sales based fee, while exempting essential items like groceries, gas, and medical needs. Any decision like this should ultimately reflect the will and best interests of our community.

I’m eager to review the long-delayed National Environmental Policy Act report assessing the environmental impact of the proposed Corridor H routes. Just as importantly, I believe the state must genuinely listen to and consider what Tucker County residents want for the future of this highway. As Corridor H continues to bring jobs, growth, and tax revenue to our county, we must ensure that progress doesn’t come at the expense of the communities that make this area special.

Not every student follows the same path after graduation, and that's okay. I believe our schools should offer strong trade and technical education programs alongside traditional academics, giving students more options for their future. By teaching practical skills and creating pathways to good careers, we can bolster our enrollment, help young people succeed, and strengthen our local workforce keeping talent here in Tucker County.
